About Communion
| Episcopal Worship is Centered in the Holy Eucharist St. Michael’s Welcomes you to the Altar of the Lord |
Welcome to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. May the Lord bless you and strengthen you in our communal worship of God. St. Michael’s is a parish of the Episcopal Church. We are one of seventy-four congregations in the Diocese of Northern California. The word “Episcopal” means, “having bishops.”
Our worship centers in the ancient Christian practice of celebrating the Lord’s presence in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Each Sunday Episcopal congregations celebrate Communion, also referred to by its Greek name, “Holy Eucharist,” which means “Thanksgiving.”
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is a way for us to be in union with God through Christ. Through Baptism we enter God’s life as God’s beloved children. In the Eucharist we are united to Christ Jesus and each other.
Regardless of Christian denomination or place of baptism, all who believe that Christ is truly present in the bread and wine are invited to participate in this meal. Baptized children may receive at the decision of parents.
If you do not wish to receive communion, or have not previously sought the sacrament of baptism, we encourage you to come forward for a prayer of blessing. The Altar of the Lord draws many to the mystery of Christ. We hope you are blessed by sharing with us in this holy mystery through communion or prayer. Spiritual counsel regarding baptism is available through the parish clergy.
